A huge breakthrough in the search for Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been made as the FBI “has photos and names” of possible suspects.

On Wednesday, February 18, the eighteenth day of Nancy’s disappearance, CBS News reported that the FBI now “has photos and names of people they believe may be the suspect seen on the surveillance video outside Nancy Guthrie’s front door with what appears to be a gun in a holster.”

The network added that investigators are talking to employees at local businesses and gun shops, asking them if they recognize any of the faces and names. Meanwhile, authorities have cleared the Today Show host, 54, and her family as possible suspects. It comes after an ex-FBI agent revealed the hidden codeword that Savannah used in her message to the kidnappers.

CBS News’ Jonathan Vigliotti reported that law enforcement has also been asking local businesses if any of the people in their photos had made any purchases at their shops.

Vigliotti’s team drove around to some of the gun shops. One person at a gun shop confirmed to the reporter’s team that he received a packet of a dozen people.

“The photos appeared to be from driver’s licenses and from social media,” Vigliotti said. “He was asked if he recognized them.”

The reporter added, “He said he did not, he plugged their names into their own database. Nothing came up. KOLD, our local CBS affiliate here in Tucson, also visited stores and spoke with one person on camera.”

Vigliotti said it’s unclear where the photos and names came from. He added, “But we do know that the sheriff’s department has had their own parallel investigation into the backpack. It’s sold exclusively at Walmart stores.

“According to the sheriff, he tells me that Walmart handed over their own list of purchase records and names, but whether or not the two are connected at this point is unclear.”

Meanwhile, the FBI is taking a close interest in the latest ransom note sent to TMZ. The outlet claimed that they received four ransom-related emails.

TMZ founder Harvey Levin told Fox News that the most recent message has drawn significant attention and prompted extensive contact with the Bureau.

Appearing on Hannity, Levin was questioned about whether there had been any progress regarding the ransom notes, “and your guarantee to the person writing them that you would pass on the information to the FBI and guarantee they get the reward money now up to $200,000?” continued Sean Hannity.

“Couple of things,” said Levin. “It’s not just the letters that we received from the person demanding money in return for information, it’s also the ransom note we got.

“I will tell you, the FBI is very interested in both the ransom letter and these demand letters — in particular today. I mean, there was a lot of communication between us and the FBI. So, they are really interested in this.”

Levin continued, “That does not mean they’ve cracked it because frankly, I don’t think they have, but they are certainly trying.”

Levin said going forward, TMZ would not confirm whether additional letters have been received. He explained that revealing too much detail or suddenly withholding information could risk signalling developments to the suspect.

On Monday, Levin, with the knowledge of the FBI, said he was prepared to act as a go-between for the individual sending the notes and federal agents.

Addressing the author of the messages directly, he warned that providing false information would constitute a “serious federal crime.”

Meanwhile, a glove believed to be connected to the disappearance of Nancy in Tucson, Arizona, was discovered to have no match in a DNA database, but authorities are still looking into it.

“Investigators are currently looking into additional investigative genetic genealogy options for DNA evidence to check for matches,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday, February 17.

Other DNA found at Nancy’s property that does not match her or anyone “in close contact with her” also has not found a match in the national law enforcement DNA database known as CODIS, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told Fox News.

It comes as the man who claims to know Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapper reveals the chilling reason he wants Bitcoin.
