Brit Taylor Readies New Album “Land of the Forgotten”

You better not get caught rattling off the names of insurgent country artists from the great state of Kentucky and omit Brit Taylor. She might be based in Nashville now, but Kentucky bleeds into everything she does, and with her first two albums Real Me (2020 and Kentucky Blue (2023), she ensconced herself into the pantheon of this generation’s Kentucky greats. Now with her new album Land of the Forgotten out March 6th, she looks to up the ante even more.

“I think it puts a light-hearted spin on some of the tougher things about life,” Taylor says about the new album. “Not to make light of difficult times but to remind us two things can exist at one time and not to forget to take a look at the bright side too and to not take it all so seriously. There’s a lot of awful things happening in the world that we need to be aware of and need to do what we can to change it. But dwelling on it and ignoring all the good things around us in the process doesn’t help anyone.”

You can hear this slightly humerous take on a very heavy subject that Brit broaches on the first single from the album “All For Sale.” You also hear those Kentucky roots sticking right up out of the ground with the out-front mandolin strums, and the twang in her tone. Accompanying the new album announcement is another killer heartbreak tune “Warning You Whiskey” (listen below).

After working with Sturgill Simpson previously, Land of the Forgotten is produced by Brit Taylor’s husband and fellow singer/songwriter Adam Chaffins. The two also co-write much of the material, with strong contributions from Adam Wright, who also plays guitar and piano on the record.

“One of the benefits of having my husband produce this record is that he knows my voice. He hears me sing on tour, on stage, in the car, the studio, the shower, the kitchen, in writing rooms,”
Taylor says. “All he encouraged me to do is what I do when no one’s telling me what to do. This record is definitely the most honest vocal approach I’ve taken on any of my records.”

Other songwriter contributors include Jeremy Bussey, Clint Daniels, Jon Decious, and Pat McLaughlin. Instrumentalists include the legendary Stuart Duncan (fiddle, mandolin, banjo), Justin Schipper (dobro, steel), Jedd Hughes (electric guitar), Chris Powell (drums, percussion), and Adam Chaffins on bass (bowed, electric, and upright), high strung acoustic guitar, and background vocals.

She might have some talented folks helping her. But Brit insists Land of the Forgotten is all her.

“I think all female singers are different from one another at first but then we’re told to conform and fit into this neat little perfect box if we want to be successful. Sadly, most of us do just that,” she says. “At this point in my life I am so over it and refuse to water myself down to fit any sort of narrative. I’m no longer sugar-coating my life experiences to make a softer, more commercial lyric. I think there’s so many women out there who need fearlessly honest songs again.”

“Fearlessly honest” is what you can expect from Land of the Forgotten, which is now available for pre-save/pre-order.
