But, although still unconfirmed, the reported state visit has been condemned by many following the recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran. The latest poll by YouGov, showed that nearly half of those polled (46%) think that the state visit should be cancelled.
Another 36% said they should go ahead, while 18% voted I don’t know.
The survey was conducted on May 9 on 12.002 British adults.
It comes after more criticism was sparked after US President Donald Trump appeared to take aim at Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, branding him “no Winston Churchill” and accusing him of wanting to “join wars after we’ve already won”.
Britain initially declined to allow the US to use its bases to strike Iran, before agreeing to their use for “defensive” missiles against Iranian missile launch sites.
Royal Air Force aircraft have also been used to intercept Iranian drones and missiles.
The latest updates come as the Royal Navy warship, HMS Dragon, was seen heading to the eastern Mediterranean, a week after its deployment was announced.
The Type 45 destroyer is capable of shooting down drones and ballistic missiles fired by Iran and its proxies as the Middle East crisis continues.
The crew of the vessel were seen lining the deck as the ship moved out of Portsmouth Harbour.
Officials insisted the ship had been prepared as quickly as possible for deployment, with six weeks’ worth of work squeezed into six days.
The announcement of the deployment of the ship came in response to a drone attack which hit the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus.
