Brooke Shields shared how she really felt about Catherine O’Hara’s impression of her on SCTV in the 1980s
“Honestly, that’s what I presented as back then,” she admitted

Brooke Shields is reflecting on the late Catherine O’Hara‘s exaggerated impression of her.
More than four decades after the Second City Television star mimicked the Blue Lagoon actress for an episode of the Canadian sketch comedy show, Shields, 60, revealed how she really felt about the impersonation.
“She wasn’t being mean,” she said of O’Hara in a recent interview with AARP’s Movies for Grownups. “It was a good imitation. And honestly, that’s what I presented as back then. I was flitty. I didn’t have much gravitas.”
During the 1984 sketch, titled “The Brooke Shields Show,” O’Hara wore a curly brown wig as her version of Shields bit her toenails and clipped clothespins to her nostrils during what was supposed to be a series of talk show interviews.
After portraying Shields with a more distracted and ditzy personality, O’Hara even went on to perform a satirical musical number as part of her impression.
Throughout her seven-year stint on SCTV, O’Hara also did wiggy yet spot-on impersonations of Meryl Streep, Katharine Hepburn, Lucille Ball and more.
Although one of her daughters suggested that O’Hara may have been “making fun” of her after seeing the clip, Shields, who shares daughters Rowan and Grier with husband Chris Henchy, emphasized that she was simply “honored” by the gesture.

“It was good comedy,” she told AARP, going on to recall crossing paths with the Home Alone actress before she knew the clip even existed. “I ran into her in church and I said, ‘I’m sorry, I just have to say I really, really like you. Peace be with you.’ ”
After O’Hara died on Jan. 31 at age 71 following a “brief illness,” Shields remembered the late actress by sharing a clip of her SCTV impression on Instagram.
“What an honor it was to be spoofed by Catherine O’Hara,” she wrote in the caption. “What an unfathomable loss. We love you, Catherine. Comedy won’t be the same without her.”
“Sending love to Catherine’s family, friends, castmates and fans today,” she added at the time. “Truly beloved.”
