While the Backstreet Boys continue their Las Vegas residency, a rival boy band might not be reuniting any time soon.
NSYNC had been close to getting back together for a massive stadium tour, but multiple sources told Us Weekly that their plans are now on hold indefinitely.
While one insider told the magazine that JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick “were all on board,” the “timing wasn’t right” for Justin Timberlake because he was on his solo tour until July and is now battling Lyme disease.
Timberlake, 44, announced his diagnosis on social media the day after his final show.
“I honestly don’t know what my future is onstage but I’ll always cherish this run!” he wrote on Instagram July 31.
The source told Us Weekly that Chasez, 49, Bass, 46, Fatone, 48, and Kirkpatrick, 53, “don’t want to” hit the road without Timberlake, whom they publicly supported following his health update.
Kirkpatrick told his Instagram followers on July 31 that he “couldn’t be more proud” to call Timberlake a friend.
The Grammy-nominated group has reunited several times, including the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, where they performed “Girlfriend” and “Bye Bye Bye.” But they haven’t toured altogether since 2002, Us Weekly noted on Thursday, September 25.
Another source told the magazine that NSYNC “had a lot of things planned” to celebrate their milestone 30th anniversary this year, which are also now postponed.
Earlier this year, Fatone told Parade exclusively that he hoped to have details about a possible reunion “hopefully freaking soon.”
When asked if he had news to share, Fatone told Parade, “I wish. That sounds great. It would sound fabulous for me, but I have absolutely no idea until we have a conversation. People have been asking me when that conversation is. It’s hopefully freaking soon. Honestly, after I’m done on March 16, maybe we sit down and have a conversation. Because it’s getting to the point where it’s like, listen, either we’re doing it or we’re not.”
