‘Scream 7’ continues slasher franchise’s long horror legacy
Original “Scream” queen Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott – and Ghostface is back, too – in slasher franchise installment “Scream 7.”
Bruce Campbell, best known for his roles in “The Evil Dead” franchise, shared his health condition with his fans.
The actor, 67, opened up about his cancer diagnosis in a statement on his social media accounts on Monday, March 2, adding that it’s “treatable, not curable.”
“I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me. I’m not gonna go into more detail,” he stated. “I’m posting this because professionally, a few things will have to change – appearances and cons and work in general need to take back seat to treatment.”
Campbell said that he hopes to get well by the summer so he can tour for his new film, “Ernie and Emma,” which follows a man after the death of his wife. He wrote, directed and stars in the project.
Campbell says he’s cancelling appearances to focus on health
According to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Campbell came on the scene as Ash Williams in the 1981 film “The Evil Dead,” and appeared in the sequels “Evil Dead II” and “Army of Darkness.”
In a 2015 interview with USA TODAY, Campbell spoke about returning to the role for the Starz series “Ash vs Evil Dead.” Campbell’s website highlights other credits that include “Spider-Man,” “Sky High” and “Bubba Ho-Tep.”
In his post, Campbell said he has to cancel upcoming convention appearances.
“There are several cons this year summer that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand,” Campbell said. “That’s about it. I’m not trying to enlist sympathy – or advice- I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).”
He continued, “Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-(expletive) and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while. As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!”
