Hollywood star Bruce Dern made a rare red carpet appearance at this year’s coveted Cannes Film Festival with his famous actress daughter, Laura.
The 89-year-old actor was all smiles as he stepped out to the prestigious event in France alongside his 59-year-old daughter, Laura, and his 24-year-old grandson, Ellery. For the event, Bruce was seen rocking a classic black tuxedo along with a Los Angles Dodgers baseball cap.
The name of the movie “Dernsie” refers to one’s ability to ad-lib lines in a scene, something that he has become famously known for doing.
The Cannes Film Festival synopsis of the movie reads, “DERNSIE is an intimate portrait of Bruce Dern — tireless, uncompromising, and one of the last living legends of his generation — whose endurance has shaped both a turbulent life and one of Hollywood’s most enduring careers. A relentless runner on and off screen, Dern has outlasted the very industry that defined him.”
The summary continues, “Drawn from over fifty hours of conversations filmed across four years, and enriched by never-before-seen photographs and deeply personal video letters from those closest to him, the film traces a life lived at full speed — through reinvention, loss, and artistic survival. It is both a reflection on a vanishing Hollywood and a testament to the artists who continue to carry its spirit forward.”
The film, directed by Mike Mendez, stars Bruce as himself as he reflects on his life and his experience taking on some of his beloved roles. Other stars featured in the film include John Wayne, Quentin Tarantino, Elia Kazan, Lee Strasberg, Alexander Payne, Alfred Hitchcock, and Bette Davis.
Bruce is most famously known for his role in the Oscar-nominated movie Nebraska and his many memorable supporting roles in Quentin Tarantino’s westerns. Some films he’s starred in over the years include The Cowboys (1972), Coming Home (1978), Silent Running (1972), The Hateful Eight (2015), and The Great Gatsby (1974), among many others.
As for the small screen, Bruce as also starred in a number of television shows over the years including Palm Royale, Goliath, Mr. Mercedes, Big Love, Stoney Burke, I Am Burt Reynolds, The Big Valley, Black Monday, and more.
Bruce’s appearance at the event comes shortly after the death of his ex-wife Oscar-nominated actress Diane Ladd. Diane died on November 3, 2025, at the age of 89 years old from acute on chronic hypoxic respiratory failure.
The former couple were married for nine years from 1960 to 1969. Despite their marriage ending in divorce, the former couple remained good friends up until her passing.
