Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa’s love story is a recipe for success.
Indeed, Jeremy Allen White revealed how he looked at the legendary rocker’s New Jersey upbringing and his 34-year marriage to the E Street Band member while getting into character as Bruce for the biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere.
“I remember going to his [childhood] home in Freehold before we started filming, and seeing the life that he has with Patti,” The Bear star exclusively told E! News’ Nikaline McCarley Sept. 28 at the 63nd New York Film Festival’s Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere premiere. “I saw that he built the life that he wanted to build.”
He continued, “I realized that’s what the movie is about, is Bruce making the decisions that got him here, where we see him today.”
Taking on the role of The Boss—who shares children Evan, 35, Jessica, 33, and Samuel, 31, with Patti his wife of 34 years—was no easy feat for White, who had no musical background.
For White, playing a rock star of the E Street Band frontman’s caliber was far more challenging than playing a chef on The Bear, for which he has won two Emmys.
“I did half, a quarter, and eighth of the kind of time that Bruce had on stage in this movie,” he said, “and it is nonstop, it is exhausting, the singing is exhausting. When I record ‘Born in the U.S.A.,’ I had a headache, I need to lie down. It’s tough.”

“I was excited. I was nervous. I’ve been a fan of Bruce’s for a long time,” the 34-year-old noted. “I never sang, I never played the guitar before, and I think all that stuff was rattling around my head.”
As the Shameless alum admitted, “In the beginning, I was concerning myself with, ‘What are all these people gonna think?’ and I wanted to please them. There was a lot of responsibility in taking on the role, for sure.”
