Fans were divided over her comments, with some expressing disapproval and others defending her honesty
Katherine Ryan isn’t joking around when it comes to which of her kids is her favorite.
While appearing on the Begin Again with Davina McCall podcast this past October, the Canadian comedian, 43, shared that she has a favorite of her four kids — and defended her decision to reveal which one it is.
“I can say it. Violet’s my favorite. She’s the firstborn daughter,” said Ryan. “And I think people don’t like that. That’s a very provocative thing to say as well.”
Ryan shares her three younger kids — Fred, Fanna and Holland — with her husband Bobby Kootstra. She is mom to daughter Violet, 17, from a previous relationship.
“And I don’t worry about it hurting my other children’s feelings because I go, ‘Those are nepo babies.’ Like, guess what? She’s my favorite,” continued Ryan. “You get to go to private school. She’s my favorite. You get to grow up with a dad. Life’s not fair. She’s my favorite.”

A clip from the podcast was reshared on a Facebook page for McCall’s podcast, and many followers shared their disapproval of Ryan’s comments.
“No, absolutely not, you can not [sic] pick a favorite child,” one person wrote. “You love them equally for their own individual purposes.”
“Even as a mum if I had these feelings don’t think I’d tell them!” said another.

However, a few others chimed in and defended Ryan, saying that they understood what the mom of four was trying to convey.
“She’s more protective over the eldest because she doesn’t have a dad in her life and they went on the journey together whereas the younger kids got the better version of her that had already achieved success,” a third commenter wrote. “I think that’s what she’s trying to say.”
“I think a lot of parents have a favorite child but it’s taboo to admit it,” said another. “Just like most people have a favorite parent, sibling, family pet, friend, cousin etc…”
