CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – A new effort to support Carbondale’s local music scene is nearly complete.
The first phase of the Carbondale Downtown Entertainment and Events Plaza construction project is wrapping up.
City leaders say the plaza project will help connect local artists and performers to the national entertainment industry.
Once finished, they say it will be used for concerts, comedy nights, plays, school performances, private gatherings and more.
The project costs about $3.5 million, with $2 million of that coming from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Rebuild Downtowns and Main Streets program.
Phase two is expected to be completed in summer 2026 and will include restrooms, patio space and concessions.
