Today is Friday, which means there are a ton of new releases to look forward to from some of your favorite Hip-Hop artists. To help you unwind and enjoy the weekend, check out VIBE’s picks of songs and albums you should hear and add to your soundtrack of weekend festivities.

  • Cardi B – “Imaginary Playerz”

Cardi B shook up the internet when she announced that her next single was titled “Imaginary Playerz,” and, yes, she sampled Jay-Z’s classic record of the same name. The Bronx artist fully leans into the aura of the 1997 track, mimicking Hov’s mafioso flow to produce one she has never used before. A sample of this magnitude understandably produced some polarizing responses across the spectrum, but this was honestly an impressive effort for Cardi. It is loaded with memorable punchlines and big flexes. She has continually spoken about how her forthcoming album Am I The Drama? would display different sides of her musically, and this is a nice preview of what else may be coming.  – Armon Sadler

  • A$AP Rocky – “Trunks”

“Trunks” feels like old A$AP Rocky, which is welcome. His experimental efforts are laudable, but he is at his best on midtempo-to-uptempo beats, calling himself pretty, and rapping with fervor.

This is legitimately the best song he has put out in a long time, and though it feels like the masses don’t care about anything musically from him beyond 2015, this could get the people excited for his elusive upcoming album. “Both Eyes Closed” is much slower, more catered to the smokers or illicit drug users.

It is a smooth track, though. These are two sides of Rocky people previously loved, and though it may be unfortunate he has to revert to his old self, it could work out well for him in the long run. – AS

  • YoungBoy Never Broke Again – ‘Deshawn’

On DESHAWN, YoungBoy Never Broke Again delivers one of his most focused efforts in recent memory, hosted by none other than DJ Khaled. The album opens strong with “AI Marley,” setting a raw and introspective tone that carries throughout.

“Trap Out,” featuring Kevin Gates, stands out with its twangy guitar-laced beat and melodic grit. YoungBoy flexes his versatility on tracks like “Ms. Gaulden” and “La Vida Loca,” while “Hustler” and “This Months Confessions” showcase his signature mix of vulnerability and street wisdom.

DESHAWN doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t need to—it’s a solid listen from an artist who knows exactly how to keep his lane compelling. – Preezy Brown

  • Chance The Rapper – ‘STAR LINE’

With Star Line, Chance The Rapper reclaims his spark, delivering a vibrant, deeply layered album that feels like both a celebration and a reckoning.

From the reflective “Star Side Intro” to the poignant “Letters,” Chance sounds reinvigorated—balancing spiritual musings with hometown pride. “Back To The Go” featuring Vic Mensa hits like a triumphant homecoming, while “Gun In Yo Purse” (with Young Thug and TiaCorine) and the soulful “Speed Of Love” with Jazmine Sullivan showcase his ear for dynamic collaborations.

“Tree,” with Lil Wayne and Smino, is a standout moment of lyrical synergy. Whether trading verses with Jay Electronica on “Just A Drop” or tapping into Chicago’s rich musical lineage, Chance constructs one of the most riveting, cohesive projects of his career. Star Line is a true return to form. – PB

  • Kodak Black – “Imma Shoot”

Kodak Black’s new single, “Imma Shoot,” is self-explanatory. The production falls within his usual wheelhouse, trending more toward uptempo with dark piano keys and hi-hats. His flow is consistent and animated, fully owning his role as the super villain or, rather, the “Super Gremlin.” The high-pitched vocals on the chorus add a nice element to this record, making it feel more than the standard trap-like tracks we hear today. As controversial as Kodak has been, he has been equally hitting the mark musically. He may release too often, and not push his music enough, but “Imma Shoot” is among some of the best recent music he has put out. – AS

  • Chief Keef, Mustard – “Shake Dat”

Chief Keef, Mustard - "Shake Dat"Chief Keef, Mustard - "Shake Dat"

Chief Keef and Mustard link up for “Shake Dat,” a brief but infectious banger that flips the Ying Yang Twins’ “Whistle While You Twurk” into a modern-day club anthem.

At just under two minutes, the track wastes no time, with Keef sliding over Mustard’s crisp, bass-heavy production. “Baby you a star, no Macy’s/ This song right here is for Sonyas and Stacys,” he raps, balancing playful energy with nostalgic flair.

Built for the viral era but grounded in early-2000s Southern rap roots, “Shake Dat” stands out as one of the week’s most fun, replay-worthy drops. – PB

  • Babyface Ray – ‘Codeine Cowboy’

Codeine Cowboy finds Babyface Ray doubling down on his signature cool-headed delivery across a sprawling two-disc project that rewards repeat listens.

Tracks like “American Psycho” and “Kick The Cup Campaign” showcase his introspective side, while “Wavy Crete” with Lil Yachty adds a surreal, melodic twist. “Lou Gram” hits with swagger and precision, anchoring the album’s tone.

With assists from guests LUCKI, Veeze, Sauce Walka, and more, Ray curates a moody, atmospheric ride that’s well worth a spin for fans of laid-back, streetwise rap. – PB

  • Roy Woods & Chow Lee – “One Night Stand”

Roy Woods and Chow Lee have linked up once again for “One Night Stand,” and they are two-for-two. This record has the production of a slow whine record, but the energy of a bashment. This is a welcome sound in a season where people are still questioning what the song of the summer is. Not to say this will jump to the top of the list, but it’s the energy people seek. Both Roy and Chow float over this beat, though Chow is a bit more nimble and aggressive with his delivery. Nonetheless, this hit the mark. Add this to your pregame playlists. – AS

  • Marco Plus – ‘Marco Plus Vs. Tha Underworld’

Marco Plus ‘Marco Plus Vs. Tha Underworld’ cover artMarco Plus ‘Marco Plus Vs. Tha Underworld’ cover art

Marco Plus is one of the most talented and fun rappers on the rise in Atlanta currently. His new album, Marco Plus Vs. Tha Underworld, is a listening experience that may make people second-guess what his hometown is, in all of the best ways.

He blends swaggy lyricism with multi-layered production and a myriad of flows. Thus, he is easily able to groove with the smooth Smino and bar up alongside Kai Ca$h and Jiggs all on the same LP.

You may come for the singles, “omm” “gmfu,” and “out my way,” but you will stay for standout tracks like “hood news” and “hell in a cell.” This is an artist you want to be early on. – AS
