Ethan Browne, the son of legendary singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, was found dead in his home back on Nov. 25.
And now we know what tragically took his life.
Rolling Stone reported that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said on Tuesday that Browne, 52, died from the “effects of fentanyl, methamphetamine and lidocaine.” The outlet reported that the death was ruled accidental.
Jackson Brown announced his son’s death last year with a post on social media.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and passed away,” the statement read. “We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment.”
IMDB reportedthat the Lost Angeles Coroner’s Office listed his cause of death as “deferred” at the time.
People Magazine reported that he was an actor, model and musician.
The outlet noted that Ethan made an appearance on the cover of Rolling Stone with his father in 1974 when he was just weeks old.
As an actor, he had a role in Kate Hudson’s 2004 film “Raising Helen,” and as a model he worked for designers such as Isaac Mizrahi, per People. His IMDB page also lists roles in the TV series “Birds of Prey,” and the movie, “Hackers.”
Browne’s mother, Phyllis Major, died by suicide in 1975.
Jackson Browne said in 2021 interview with Route Magazine that following her death he turned his focus to raising his son.
“I only had two things that I hoped I could fit together: being a songwriter and a father,” he said. “And I looked at this, if I have to only be a father, I hope I’ll know it, and just do that.”
