Fresh off the revelation that he designed Taylor Swift’s wedding dress (still unseen after a weekend of extraordinary secrecy), Jonathan Anderson presented his second couture collection for Dior inside a sleek pavilion erected in the gardens of Paris‘ Rodin Museum.
Even if the setting was traditionally Parisian, Parker Posey was mentally somewhere far more tropical. Wearing a loose, colorful caftan, the “White Lotus” actress arrived carrying a vintage parasol she picked up in Thailand.
“I’ve been telling people I’m waiting for my yacht. I’m on my way to my yacht, going somewhere far away today,” she joked, explaining that she invents a backstory for every outfit she wears. “That’s the story and I’m gonna play this woman.”
She also came prepared for the heat with a fan tucked into her bag.
Naomi Watts, meanwhile, opted for what she described as an “elegant and sleek” navy and white suit with baroque pearl buttons.
“I tend to gravitate toward clean lines and nothing too busy,” she said, while admitting she was eager to escape the midday sun.
Watts, who wore one of Anderson’s Dior designs to the Met Gala in May, said she admires his ability to balance playfulness with restraint.
“I love his whimsicalness. There’s the modern edge as well, but it feels poetic at the same time,” she said.
The actress also reflected on the craftsmanship behind couture, noting the weeks of work required to produce a collection. “It takes extreme hard work, patience and vision,” she said.
Rising actress Ella Bright, breakout star of “Off Campus,” was overwhelmed and not quite ready to chat. “I’m genuinely too nervous right now,” she said, taking in the chaotic scene.
Josh O’Connor arrived with perhaps the day’s most unexpected plus-ones in his parents, all the while making sure they featured in his arrival photos.
“They’re great and I love them,” he said.
Running on little sleep after catching the end of England’s overnight World Cup match, the “Disclosure Day” actor used British parlance to express his confidence in his team bringing the trophy back to the U.K. “It’s coming home,” he said.
He also expressed admiration for Anderson. “He’s a magician. He thinks in this creative way. Jonathan has those moments of pure creativity on a regular basis,” he said.
Olympic gold medalist Eileen Gu nearly didn’t make it to the scene. Flying in from New York after missing a flight, she landed in Paris that morning, rushed to a fitting and headed straight to the show.
“We accidentally pulled an all-nighter, landed this morning, did the fitting and came straight here on zero hours of sleep — but it’s pure joy, pure drama,” she said.
Gu chose a light summer look to combat the heat and said she has recently taken up boxing for fun, while also following the World Cup, calling it “an incredible time.”
Her plans following the show? “We have Spain vs. Portugal tonight at 9 p.m., and that’s gonna be crazy,” she said. “I’m locked in.”
The biggest arrivals frenzy was for Sabrina Carpenter, who arrived last and fresh from Swift’s wedding celebrations. Also in the mix were Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, as well as K-pop star Kim Mingyu of Seventeen, starting off Paris Couture Week with a star-studded front row.
