Celebrities across the globe are sounding the alarm after the recent ICE killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis sparked a new wave of outrage and calls for justice.

While the world of entertainment usually revolves around premieres and chart-toppers, the conversation has shifted toward a tragic series of events in Minnesota that has left the public, and many of Hollywood’s biggest stars, completely heartbroken.

The tension reached a fever pitch this past weekend following the death of Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Pretti was fatally shot by federal agents on January 24 while reportedly trying to shield a bystander.

Despite official claims that he was a threat, viral video footage showing Pretti pinned to the ground has ignited a firestorm of celebrity condemnation.

Social media has become the primary battleground for stars to share their raw thoughts on the Minneapolis tragedy.

Billie Eilish took to her Instagram stories to honour Pretti, calling him “a real American hero.” She also challenged her peers to get involved, posting a selfie with the pointed caption: “hey my fellow celebrities u gonna speak up? Or”

Pedro Pascal shared a post on his Instagram with a powerful message: “Truth is a line of demarcation between a democratic government and authoritarian regime. Mr Pretti and Rene Good are dead. The American people deserve to know what happened..”

Cynthia Nixon took to Instagram to share the statement of Michael and Susan Pretti on the horrific killing of their son, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, by ICE. She urged fans to share the statements far and wide.

Natalie Portman became visibly emotional during a recent press event, telling reporters, “What is happening in our country is just obscene. What [the administration] and ICE are doing to our citizens and to undocumented people is outrageous and needs to end.”

The killing of Pretti marks the third federal shooting in Minneapolis in just three weeks. It follows the January 7 death of Renée Good, a 37-year-old mother who was fatally shot in her car by an ICE officer.

The tragedy of Good previously took centre stage at the Golden Globes earlier this month.

Mark Ruffalo, wearing a “Be Good” pin, was extremely outspoken on the red carpet, telling reporters: “We have a woman, Renee Good, who was murdered in our streets of America today. As much as I love all this, I don’t know if I can pretend like this crazy stuff isn’t happening.” He went on to say that Donald Trump was the “worst human being in the world.”

Other stars like Ariana Grande, Wanda Sykes, and Jennifer Aniston have also added their voices to the growing chorus, proving that when it comes to issues this close to home, the entertainment world is ready to step off the stage and into the streets.
