THE Lake District has been a favourite retreat for many celebrities.

Comedian Dom Joly, known for his show Trigger Happy TV, was spotted this weekend in Keswick and Windermere, recreating classic sketches from his show.

In 2001, the Lake District was the romantic backdrop for Heather Mills and Sir Paul McCartney’s staycation.

They chose the Sharrow Bay Hotel on Ullswater, where Sir Paul proposed over lunch.

The couple returned to the Lakes several times during their relationship, praising its tranquillity.

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has expressed his love for Buttermere, a village in the Western Lake District.

Despite owning a castle in Herefordshire, he calls Buttermere his “favourite place in the world.”

The village is less visited than nearby Keswick, with the stunning Syke Farm Campsite and Tearooms and the Buttermere Court Hotel greeting guests.
