The BBC has confirmed the full 21-strong cast for Celebrity Traitors series 2, with an Irish star among the celebs set to appear on the new season of the hit show
The BBC has revealed the full lineup of 21 celebrities who have signed up for the second series of Celebrity Traitors — and this year’s “big dogs” look set to be Jerry Hall and Miranda Hart, or perhaps Michael Sheen and Richard E Grant.
The programme, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Scottish Highlands at Ardross Castle, begins filming next week with the famous faces expected to start descending on the location today.
Also joining the cast are University Challenge host Amol Rajan, The Last of Us actress Bella Ramsey and comedian James Acaster — not to be confused with Beautiful singer James Blunt, who is equally among those within the castle walls.
Irish comedian Joanne McNally is also on board, alongside former Coronation Street legend Julie Hesmondhalgh, social media content creator King Henry and comedy favourite Joe Lycett.
Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock has signed up along with Love Island host Maya Jama, Industry actress Myha’la and BBC science and maths expert Professor Hannah Fry.
Rob Beckett will be providing the laughs alongside his regular TV partner Romesh Ranganathan, joined by former EastEnders hardman Ross Kemp, My Mad Fat Diary star Sharon Rooney, and musician and actor Sebastian Croft — widely recognised as young Ned Stark in Game of Thrones, reports the Mirror.
Once filming gets underway this weekend, the 21 participants will be divided into Traitors and Faithfuls, following in-depth interviews with host Claudia Winkleman and members of the production crew.
From that moment on, their objective will be to uncover which among them are making nightly trips to the turret dressed in the green hooded cloaks – determining which members of the remaining group will be eliminated.
Rather than pocketing any prize money themselves, the celebrity contestants will once again be donating their winnings to their selected charities.
While currently filming, the series isn’t anticipated to broadcast on BBC1 until autumn, mirroring last year’s schedule when the likes of Sir Stephen Fry, Alan Carr, Paloma Faith, Charlotte Church and Jonathan Ross participated.
It was ultimately won by Alan Carr who revealed himself as a Traitor in the closing moments, before breaking down in tears under the pressure of it all.
That final scene has now secured a nomination for the TV Moment of the Year award at the BAFTAs next weekend.
In recent months there has been considerable speculation about potential participants, with reports suggesting that Danny Dyer, Ruth Jones, Liam Gallagher, Cheryl Tweedy and Peter Crouch would feature in the castle. Other incorrect predictions included Alison Hammond and Louis Theroux.
