PRINCE Harry will never return to Royal duties because he is the opposite of everything Charles stands for, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex briefly met up with his father for the first time in 19 months during his recent four-day visit to the UK.

Harry had not seen Charles since he jetted back for 30 minutes last February, following the King’s cancer announcement.

The King flew back from Balmoral between three official audiences for the “private tea” between the two, which lasted just 55 minutes.

The Times reports it was made clear to the King’s youngest son he was not able to have a “half-in, half-out” role with the Firm.

And royal expert Hugo Vickers has told The Sun his return would not be possible because he “contradicts” everything his father is doing.

Mr Vickers said Harry, who stepped down as a working royal with wife Meghan Markle, is followed around by too much “controversy.”

Mr Vickers told The Sun: “We know that the King and Harry had a meeting when he was over here – and I think that was a good thing.

“On a personal level, I think it’s very important that the King and Prince Harry should talk.

“Any kind of personal reconciliation between father and son, I think that’s terribly important.

“However, as for half in, half out, no, that’s not going to work. I don’t see any possibility of Prince Harry returning here to royal duties.

“For the simple reason that he attracts a lot of publicity, often controversial.

Royal experts breakdown Prince Harry and King Charles first meeting in 19 months as reconciliation draws closer

“It would be in complete contradiction to everything that the King and other members of the royal family are doing.”

Mr Vickers would go on to explain that, while he thinks it is important for the monarch to reconcile with his estranged son on a personal level, he doesn’t believe there is a strong wish from anyone on this side of the Atlantic to see Harry return as a working royal.

The term “working royal” came into use around the time of the late Queen’s platinum jubilee – it refers to members of the royal family who undertake royal duties instead of going out and making money for themselves, Mr Vickers said.

Hugo Vickers said the King was remaining consistent with his mother’s wishes, that members of the firm either be working royals or not.

There is no middle ground for Harry to occupy, according to Mr Vickers who said that Meghan and Harry had made their choice to “continue doing what they are doing” long ago.

The royal expert said working royals are “the ones who are totally committed.”

He added that the King allowing Harry to return on a “half-in half-out” basis would be contrary to the monarch’s late mother’s wishes.

The royal expert explained that “I think it’s always difficult for the monarch.

“He has to uphold the traditions of the crown, and do what is best for the monarchy, and what’s best for this country.

“And frankly, having Prince Harry doing alternative royal engagements would not be good for this country.

“Simple as that.”

The door was left open for Harry to return for some time but he and Meghan made it clear they would rather continue to “do what they are doing” in America.

But Mr Vickers said that the couple’s chance for an official return had now vanished, explaining: “You can’t do both. It just doesn’t work. It’s not fair.

“It’s not fair on the British taxpayer. It’s not fair on the other members of the royal family, it’s not fair on the King. Simple as that.”

He praised the King for taking a firm stance on the issue and protecting his late mother’s wishes, saying: “To completely deny Harry, sort of, this halfway house of potentially doing moral engagement, it’s a good thing.

“It’s a good step from the King.”

While the royal expert remains sure that Prince Harry will continue to engage with charities in the UK, something he has been trained for, he said it remains unlikely he will be doing it as a member of the firm anytime soon.

If Harry wants to come back to life as a working royal, he has to do it properly or not at all, Mr Vickers said.

He said the King’s stance on the Duke’s return would not “surprise Harry” who has had it made clear to him that he cant be both a royal and continue to do what he is doing with his wife Meghan in America.

Mr Vickers said Harry will “still continue to do these charity events” but said the firm had “categorically laid down, from day one.” that he can’t be half-in and half-out.

Why did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle step back as senior working royals?

PRINCE Harry has always wanted out of the Royal Family and the repercussions will be felt for years, an expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex has lived in California with his wife Meghan Markle since 2020 after they dramatically quit their jobs as working royals and moved across the pond.

Katie Nicholl, who is Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent, told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show that Megxit did not come as a surprise to her.

Speaking to The Sun’s Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson, the commentator explained: “Anyone who knows Harry is aware he’s always wanted a way out of the Royal Family.

“He’s said multiple times on the record that he wished he’d never been born a prince.

“I think he really is living the life he wants to now. It’s very, very sad that it’s played out the way it has.”

In a statement made on the Sussexes’ Instagram account as they stepped back in 2020, the pair wrote: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.

“We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”
