Princess Anne appeared to take a subtle swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when questioned about the notion of a “slimmed down” monarchy.
The Princess Royal, 74, has never publicly addressed the couple directly since their departure from the Royal Family in 2020, and was among the few royals spotted conversing with Harry at occasions like the King’s Coronation.
Nevertheless, during a CBC interview, Anne revealed that her brother’s choice to reduce the number of senior working royals was decided before certain key figures resigned from their roles.
She remarked at the time: “Well, I think the ‘slimmed-down’ (monarchy) was said in a day when there were a few more people around to make that seem like a justifiable comment.
“I mean, it doesn’t sound like a good idea from where I’m standing, I have to say. I’m not quite sure what else, you know, we can do.”
“Princess Anne reiterated this mantra. She pointed out that it wasn’t a working monarchy; it was a job. You turn up on time, do your research, and do your duty.
“It’s all about the project at hand. She also pointed out that whatever charities you are involved in, you need to get involved and get immersed.”
The Princess Royal is distinguished as one of the most dedicated members of the family, even though she is also one of the eldest.
Despite enduring an injury earlier this year, Anne took only a short break from her responsibilities to heal before resuming her Royal obligations.
