Filtered through the prism of a dissolving relationship, ‘Over You’ contemplates the stop-starts of an endless journey and the search for the right exit. With plaintive vocals layered over a bittersweet breakbeat, Chet Faker ponders “where the time went so fast”, conjuring the feeling of getting lost in somebody’s memories; a nostalgic reminder of what once was, knowing that it can’t be again.
A Love For Strangers is an album that sees Murphy returning to the sense of restless exploration that led him to make music as Chet Faker in the first place. “Over You” is an electronic pick-up to his previous release, the beautifully sombre “Can You Swim?,” which offered a vulnerable look into Chet Faker’s perspective on love.
