Ellen Pompeo may be only part-time on Grey’s Anatomy lately, but that doesn’t mean she’s scaling down on the TV scene overall. In fact, she recently set up her next small-screen project, and it reunites her with a creator she just worked with.
Pompeo is reuniting with the creator of Good American Family, Katie Robbins, for a series pilot at Hulu called Chicks.
So what do we know about Chicks so far? Here’s a look.
Who will star in Chicks?
So far, Pompeo is the only star attached to the project, and she’ll both star in and executive produce the pilot in a role that was specifically created for her by Robbins. Calamity Jane’s Laura Holstein also executive produces, and 20th Television is the studio.
What is Chicks about?
According to Deadline, the hopeful series will center on a pair of half-sisters who are on hard times when their mutual father, described as a “wise guy,” dies unexpectedly. Inspired by their dad’s past crimes (and, of course, their own desperation), they decide to pair up for their own frauds and grow closer in the process.
The trade reports that Robbins was inspired to write Chicks while working with Pompeo on the set of Good American Family, the true-crime-based drama that featured Pompeo as the adoptive, abusive mother of Natalia Grace.

What else is there to know about Chicks?
The pilot’s shoot is expected to take place in September in New York. This could mean fans can expect Pompeo’s absence from Grey’s to continue in the fall, as that series is expected to return to ABC, likely in September or October, for Season 23.
Of course, Pompeo’s behind-the-scenes work on Grey’s still continues apace and is even expanding with a new Texas-set spinoff now in the works, with her onboard as an executive producer.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Hulu gives Chicks a full-season order after the pilot or not.
