“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday said President Donald Trump is “so eager” to stop talking about the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“I think it’s really time for the country to get onto something else, really,” Trump said, after a trove of newly released documents raised questions about his ties to Epstein, who was once a close friend of his. “I think it’s time now for the country to maybe get on to something else.”
Colbert offered mock agreement ― at first.
“Yes, sir. I think it’s time to turn the page,” he said, then added: “Unfortunately, you’re on the next page, too. You’re like on 5,000 of the pages, right?”
Colbert’s audience erupted.
Trump’s name appears thousands of times in the new documents, along with the names of other elites, including numerous members of Trump’s inner circle and Cabinet, as well as billionaire Bill Gates, former President Bill Clinton and others.
But there are also a few surprising names in the documents ― and Colbert even found a reference to himself.
