While there’s no official word from either Disney or The Jim Henson Company about the film’s development, and Lawrence didn’t share any plot details, this announcement guarantees fans will do everything they can to make sure it happens. It has to. Despite being one of the most vocal divas in history, Miss Piggy has never starred in her own film. And Escola—who wrote and won a Tony for starring in their Broadway smash comedy Oh, Mary!—is an absolutely perfect choice to capture Miss Piggy’s voice. Their other notable credits include At Home With Amy Sedaris, Tuca & Bertie, and Difficult People. If anyone can make The Muppets‘ diva shine, Escola can.
Writing a movie, even one produced by two big-time stars like Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence, is still a long way off from actually getting that movie to theaters.
