Collin Gosselin posts a message for his estranged mom, Kate Gosselin, after announcing his new memoir.
The Jon & Kate Plus 8 star shares “what’s done in the darkness will come to light” in reference to his mom.
Kate and Collin have been estranged for over a decade as he’s lived with his dad Jon Gosselin.
Collin Gosselin is sending a message to his estranged mom Kate Gosselin amid news she’s allegedly upset about his upcoming memoir.
Collin, 22, is one of Kate and ex Jon Gosselin‘s sextuplets, whose upbringing aired on TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 and then Kate Plus 8 from 2007 to 2017. (The exes, who divorced in 2009, also share Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Leah, and Joel, as well as twins, Mady and Cara.)
According to Collin, his book, titled In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, will detail “the hardest moments” of his life that weren’t shown on screen. Shortly after he announced the memoir, reports claimed Kate was “spiraling” over what her son would share.
On his Instagram Stories Saturday, Collin reshared a story from the celebrity.land, whose headline read, “Kate Gosselin ‘spiraling’ ahead of estranged son Collin’s bombshell memoir: ‘She knows it’s about to hit the fan.'”
In his repost, Collin blurred out his mom’s face and shared a comment from a follower that read, “What’s done in darkness will always come to light.”
Collin has reportedly not had a relationship with Kate since around 2016, when she enrolled him in a program away from home to address his “special needs.”
“[There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own,” she told PEOPLE at the time.
“I’ve felt very alone in this,” Kate added. “By the same token, it’s not something that has only impacted me or him — our entire family has been impacted.”

Jon, who was estranged from his family at the time, fought for physical and legal custody of Collin after securing custody of his sister Hannah in 2018. The children remain close to Jon, but Hannah has also kickstarted a renewed relationship with Kate as of late.
“I think Hannah is very sentimental and reminiscent, in a way, and I think she wants to still have a piece of that family,” Collin said in an interview with the U.S. Sun last year. “And I even look back at it like this — during my parents’ divorce Hannah was always so much closer with my dad. But now that I look at it I don’t think that it was that she was closer with my dad, I think she just wanted both parents in her life. And it makes a lot of sense and that literally is normal — that’s a normal thing kids want that.”
Kate has posted on social media about her reunion with Hannah. Collin, however, doesn’t seem to ever want to repair their relationship.
In September 2024, Collin claimed Kate was “physically aggressive” and “verbally” abusive to him as a child in an interview with The Sun. He also alleged that he was “100 percent treated differently” than his siblings. (Kate denied Collin’s claims and said in a statement following his allegations that she would never “intentionally harm” Collin, who showcased “troubled behavior” as a child.)
As for his memoir, set to be released on Oct. 13, 2026, the cover features a throwback photo of Kate covering his mouth and the synopsis reads: “In the Shadow of Eight is the first account of a secret childhood lived in the gaps between the frames.”
“For a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story,” Collin wrote on Instagram on June 17, when he unveiled the cover for his memoir.

“Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television. People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw,” he continued. “For years, I kept those experiences to myself. Some because I was afraid. Some because I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And some because I just wasn’t ready.”
He concluded, “This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived.”
