Louisiana-born stand-up comedian Theo Von will not ride as a special guest in the Wearin’ of the Green St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Baton Rouge on Saturday, but there are late additions to the lineup.
Fresh from their state championship wins, members of the University High, Southern Lab and Zachary High girls’ basketball teams will be atop the champions’ float.
“The community has really come together to give these kids this opportunity to be celebrated,” float organizer Darryl Hurst said Thursday afternoon, adding that the float has a sponsor, and the entry fee has been taken care of.
Meanwhile, Mabyn Shingleton, a The Parade Group LLC spokesperson, confirmed Von’s late exit from the parade.
Shingleton added that U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy will be riding in the parade as a dignitary, but Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards declined an invitation as he will be attending a funeral on Saturday.
“Can’t make this, Baton Rouge! Have shows in Jacksonville this weekend. See y’all next year. Love y’all,” Von, 45, posted on X earlier Thursday.
Von, a native of Covington, has appeared on MTV and Comedy Central shows and hosts the “This Past Weekend” podcast.
Von has a Friday night show and two Saturday shows in Florida, according to his website.
The Wearin’ of the Green rolls at 11 a.m. Saturday through the Hundred Oaks and Perkins Road Overpass neighborhoods. See map for details.
