Comedian Colin Mochrie, best known as one of the stars of the popular improv show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” has had to postpone several upcoming shows due to a medical emergency.
In a post made on Friday to Mochrie’s official Instagram account, it was announced that Mochrie, 68, “has been diagnosed with a detached retina and will be undergoing emergency eye surgery today.”
“His medical team is optimistic about his full recovery, but he needs time to rest and heal,” the post said.
“We understand this news is disappointing for those who were looking forward to the performances, and we truly appreciate your understanding,” the post continued. “We are currently working on rescheduling the shows, and all tickets will be honored for the new dates. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled performances, we will provide information on how to request a refund.”
Mochrie was currently on tour with hypnotist Asad Mecci, as part of a show that combined hypnosis and improvisation, dubbed “HYPROV.”
“Colin is incredibly grateful for your support and well wishes” the post concluded. “He looks forward to being back on stage and sharing many more laughs with all of you in the near future.”
Retinal detatchment occurs when a layer of tissue at the back of the eye pulls away from its normal position, according to the Mayo Clinic. The longer it goes without treatment, the greater the risk of permanent vision loss.
