Country Icon Miranda Lambert Has Perfect Comeback After Fan Throws Bra on Stage originally appeared on Parade.
It’s become an unfortunate, and increasingly common, trend: concertgoers throwing objects on stage during live performances.
From cell phones to glow sticks, artists across genres have faced a barrage of tossed items mid-show. Now, country star Miranda Lambert can be added to the list — but her witty comeback turned the surprise into a highlight of the night.
While performing at the Lea County Fairgrounds in Lovington, New Mexico, Lambert was about to launch into her 2011 hit “Baggage Claim” when an audience member hurled a bra onto the stage. Rather than letting it derail the moment, the seasoned performer took it in stride.
“Who threw this bra up here? Okay. It’s been a while, but thank you,” Lambert said to the crowd. “It ain’t my size, I’m gonna hang it right here [on the mic stand.]”
She then leaned into the moment, adding, “It’s perfect timing because this one’s for the ladies tonight.”
With over two decades on stage and nine Academy of Country Music awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, Lambert is no stranger to the unpredictability of live shows — and her quick wit has only sharpened with time.
The latest incident highlights a growing and oddly specific trend among country fans, bra-tossing. What once may have been associated more with rock stars is now appearing regularly at country concerts, with mixed reactions from performers.
Country singer Riley Green found himself on the receiving end of a more awkward moment when a fan threw a “sticky bra,” a strapless, adhesive garment, onto the stage. The encounter left quite a lasting impression.
“I don’t recommend throwing those onstage; I’m not gonna pick any more up,” Green told Billboard. “I fell for it once.”
