The North Carolina Courage take on Utah Royals FC on Saturday night at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The Courage are coming off a 2-0 loss to the Kansas City Current last weekend, their fifth-straight match without a win.
In hopes of ending the skid, Courage acting coach Nathan Thackeray said the team got a needed morale boost from interacting with fans at a season-ticket holder event on Wednesday.
“There’s so many people here that have to care about the team and want the team to do well,” Thackeray said. “A lot of good things said about the club and about the way of doing things. We’re excited to get back in front of them.”
The Courage haven’t won since a June 21 match against Houston. In May, the Courage beat Utah 2-0.
Against the Current, Courage player Kaleigh Kurtz tied the NWSL’s record for consecutive regular season starts. She could break it this weekend, which would be a fitting honor for someone Thackery called “the ultimate professional.”
“We’ve talked a lot about her as an Ironwoman, a 3-time Ironwoman,” Thackeray said. “What she’s put into being able to be on the field for every minute of every game, but also her ability and kind of just consistency met to this team over the years.”
The match starts at 7:30 p.m.
