Courtney Barnett has returned with new single, “Stay In Your Lane,” the Australian artist’s track is now out via Mom+Pop Music, and her first new music since instrumental record End Of The Day and album Things Take Time, Take Time. The track, features Barnett’s signature evocative lyricism. “Gotta get this off my chest” she chants in the chorus, “This never would’ve happened if I stayed in my lane, stayed the same way.” Alex Ross Perry (Pavements) directed the song’s accompanying video.
Barnett has been road-testing new music at a series of intimate shows at Levon Helm Studios and in Joshua Tree but will be returning to screens on Wednesday, October 22nd, performing the new single on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Barnett, arrived on the scene with her 2013 with A Sea of Split Peas, followed by her 20215 debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit. Barnett followed her debut with 2017’s Lotta Sea Lice, an acclaimed collaborative record with Kurt Vile, and eschewed the vignettes of her early records on 2018’s Tell Me How You Really Feel, her humid, political sophomore record, which featured the Margaret Atwood-invoking single “Nameless, Faceless”. In 2021, she released Things Take Time, Take Time.
