Prog duo Crown Lands have unveiled their latest concept record. Apocalypse is out now via InsideOut Music.
Like its predecessors, Ritual I and II, Apocalypse was recorded entirely in the band’s home studio, where it was created almost entirely by themselves. For reinforcement, they called in producers Nick Raskulinecz and David Bottrill.
That continuity aligns with the story Apocalypse tells, as it exists in the same timeline as their earlier works, advancing the narrative. This is most aptly seen in the 19-minute title track.
“With long-form songs, it always starts with the music,” drummer and vocalist Cody Bowles said via press notes. “We built ‘Apocalypse’ from instrumental sections, some older riffs, a lot of newly inspired ones, and mapped them out on a whiteboard, figuring out how one section could melt into the next.”
