CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday evening looked toward future developments and improvements with both reports and resolutions.

Public Safety Committee Chairman Brad Smith announced that installation of a “baby box” anonymous drop-off point for babies at Cullman Fire Station No. 3 is underway, and that the Cullman Police Department has received new and upgraded non-lethal taser devices.

Cullman Regional Airport General Manager Ben Harrison announced that construction of the airport’s new taxiway is about to begin, and will be followed by construction of a new apron (aircraft parking area) in the spring of 2026. The council approved a change order to the apron project that will add $2,000 to the cost due to construction delays, and also approved a resolution for reimbursement of the costs of construction of an educational building and maintenance hangar.

The council passed a resolution to accept a $500,000 grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund for development of a playground at East Side “Lions Club” Park. Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism will host a community forum on Monday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. at the OmniPlex to view proposed playground designs.

CPRST Executive Director Nathan Anderson told The Tribune that, with this grant, the agency will focus on developing the playground and sports equipment and courts at the site, but that a dog park and new sidewalks are also in the works.

The council voted to apply for a $500,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant to renovate the Cullman Community Theatre facility, a repurposed church building located behind city hall. According to Anderson, the facility will seat around 200 guests and will serve as a small venue for Cullman’s community theater and community bands, as well as other entertainment, while events requiring more seating will continue to be held at Cullman High School or Wallace State Community College through agreements with those entities. A community forum about that project will take place Thursday, Aug. 14, at 5:30 p.m. at 303 Clark St. NE.

The council also passed a resolution to appoint election workers for the Municipal Election on Aug. 26, 2025.

Additionally, the council approved a request from QuikTrip, located at 1811 Fourth St. SW, for a beer and wine off-premises alcohol license.

The Cullman City Council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at city hall. The public is invited to attend.
