Both of my dogs like music, but I can’t say they know specific songs. They prefer light hits or classical rather than anything too loud and chaotic like heavy metal, yet they choose to just listen rather than join in and sing along.
Pretzel the Dachshund puppy takes a different approach. The precious pooch has an impressive set of pipes and loves to croon along to a hit by Wizard of Oz star Ariana Grande.
In the TIkTok from @pretzeltheweenie, the adorable pup was enjoying a car ride with his mom. Pretzel sat in his special car seat when his mom suddenly turned on some music.
Grande’s song “Supernatural” filled the car and Pretzel couldn’t help but sing along. The fine-tuning fur baby hit the high notes from the start and added some howls for good measure.
“He loves this song,” the onscreen text revealed.
Followers shared that Grande reposted the video on her Instagram account. The pop and film star must have been extremely impressed with the pooch’s vocals.
Do Dogs Like to Sing?
Many dogs love to howl along to their favorite tune. This penchant for singing goes back to their ancestral line of wolves. Howling is how wolves communicate in the wild and ward off predators. They also do it to assemble the pack and exert their group identity.
Just like wolves, dogs actually have a sense of pitch and can change their tone. Canines pick up higher frequencies than humans, so they may howl along to sounds you can’t hear. They can individualize their howl by using a different pitch or note.

A previous study revealed that dogs respond differently to three genres of music. Despite Pretzel’s enthusiastic accompaniment to Grande’s song, pop music didn’t produce a noticeable effect in dogs. Heavy metal caused them to be nervous and agitated, where classical had a calming result.
Pretzel should request a duet with Grande — the singer loves dogs and you never know… she might say yes!
