Abel Linares from Orange County, Calif., spent the past few years suffering from health issues that impacted his kidney function. The 58-year-old ultimately learned he would need a kidney transplant.
Abel’s two oldest daughters, Christina, 37, and Stephanie, 30, offered to donate their kidneys. Initially, he wasn’t on board with the idea of one of his daughters becoming his donor. They reassured him that they were adults and confident in making their own decisions.

Unfortunately, after months of testing, Christina and Stephanie learned that neither of them was a match for their dad.
At that point, Abel was devastated and losing hope. He would now be forced to wait, possibly for years, for a kidney donor as his health continued to decline.
At that point, Abel’s youngest daughter Kat, 24, stepped up and secretly decided to see if she could be her dad’s donor. She kept her doctor’s appointments discreet and underwent testing for the donation without him knowing.
After a month of waiting for results, Kat was thrilled to learn that she was a match. She decided to break the news while surrounded by her friends and family.

On Aug. 11, Kat surprised Abel by gifting him a cake that read: “I’m your kidney match.”
In the heartwarming video, posted by T&T Creative Media, Abel was shocked to realize that his donor would be his youngest daughter. Kat then hugs him as he breaks down in tears.
“I didn’t think my dad would cry because he’s a strong man that doesn’t show his emotions,” Kat told Happily News.
“It felt relieving knowing that what I’m doing is the right decision and his prayers have now been answered,” she said. “He can peacefully relax and not stress about waiting years for a candidate.”
