Big Mistakes will run for years if Dan Levy has his way.
The Netflix comedy series, which Levy created with Rachel Sennott, premiered on April 9, and Levy, 42, tells PEOPLE he already has plans for the long run.
“I know how the entire show ends,” he says on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of the show. “Oh, yeah. You gotta know what you’re playing with before you pitch it to somebody.”
Levy stars in Big Mistakes alongside Taylor Ortega as brother-sister duo Nicky and Morgan, “two deeply incapable siblings who are in over their heads when a misguided theft for their dying grandmother accidentally pulls them into the world of organized crime,” per the official synopsis.

The pressure was on for the actor after Schitt’s Creek ended — which he’d created with his dad, Eugene Levy, and they both starred in —in 2020 when it came to what his next project would be.
“When I left Schitt’s, I really wanted to make sure that the next thing I did in TV gave me that same sense of inspiration and passion and excitement and love and affection for the people I was working with,” Dan says.
Big Mistakes did just that. “I love these people so much. I’m so proud of this cast and crew. People are working at, like, 110%. All I did was set the table for these people, and they ate.”
Making the show, he says, was a “really, really special experience,” and he hopes “to tell this story for seasons and seasons and seasons.”

Dan has also said that he consciously took a break after the success of Schitt’s Creek — which also starred Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy — amid the pressure.
“When the show ended, there was this immediate conversation of, like, ‘What are you doing next?'” he said during an L.A. event to promote Big Mistakes, per The Hollywood Reporter. “I needed to take a minute because I knew what the show meant to me, and I knew what it meant to other people. And having a show of your own, you’re so proud of what you make, and if you’re lucky enough to get, in our case, six seasons of a TV show, you walk away from that really proud of what you’ve done.”
To jump too quickly into “something else” would do “the new project a disservice,” Dan said. “Because you’re constantly going to be comparing it to the one that came before, so I needed the dust to settle.”
Big Mistakes is now streaming on Netflix.
