David Harbour is speaking out for the first time about Lily Allen‘s break up album, West End Girl.
The British singer’s scathing album—released in October 2025, just one month before the premiere of the final season of Stranger Things—seemingly portrayed Harbour as having an extramarital affair.
“It was weird,” Harbour told Variety’s Daniel D’Addario in a new interview. “I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.”
He added, “I can’t really say that much more because it’s my private life. In spite of the fact that a lot of people don’t allow me a private life — I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won’t speak about that.”
D’Addario then asked the actor if he wanted to push back on any claims Allen made on the album.
“Stories are complex, and that’s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience,” Harbour answered. “It wasn’t my experience.”
In a November 2025 interview with Esquire Spain, Harbour was asked about turning 50 and if there’s anything he’d change about the “last half-century” of his life. Without mentioning Allen, he alluded to “mistakes” he made along his journey.
“That’s such a hard question – the question of regret, or something. I would change either everything or nothing,” Harbour began. “You either accept your path completely and realise that even the pain and the slip-ups and the mistakes are all part of the journey, and that there’s truth and growth, wisdom and deeper empathy and connection in all that.”
While speaking to The Times, Allen said she didn’t think all of her claims on West End Girl were “all true,” noting that she used “artistic license” when writing the album.
Allen and Harbour first met on the celeb dating app Raya in 2019 and tied the knot the following year, according to People. A source told the magazine in February 2025 that the couple had called it quits.
Allen’s West End Girl Tour began with a European leg in March and recently concluded its first North American leg back in March. The tour will resume in England on June 16 and visit major cities across the UK, North America, and Oceania through November 1, when the tour wraps up in Perth, Australia.
