A host of Detroit celebrities — including Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell, Tim Meadows, Sam Richardson and Oscar winner J.K. Simmons — will participate in The Coney, an inaugural celebrity charity event on Sept. 26 at the Detroit Opera House, organizers announced Wednesday.
The event — which is being put on Marc Evan Jackson, the actor, writer, comedian, and founder of the Detroit Creativity Project — will raise money for youth arts in Detroit through the Children’s Foundation of Michigan.
The Coney is billed as “a high-energy, anything-goes celebration of the Motor City,” according to an event announcement. “We’ve got music, comedy, and guaranteed unforgettable moments — plus plenty of surprises on the docket.”
Limited tickets will be made available to the public and will go on sale at 12 p.m. June 24. A full lineup of participating talent is expected in early September.
“The Coney is deeply personal for me because I’ve seen firsthand what happens when young people are given the space and support to be creative,” Jackson said in a statement.
“Through the Detroit Creativity Project, I’ve seen students grow in confidence, find their voice, build community and begin to see new possibilities for themselves and their future. Those experiences reinforced something I’ve believed for a long time: arts education doesn’t just shape artists — it helps shape resilient, creative and connected human beings,” Jackson said. “The Coney is about making sure more Detroit kids have access to those opportunities for generations to come.”
The event is sponsored by Rocket Companies.
A private welcome party for the event’s guests, community leaders, sponsors and supporters is scheduled for September 25.
More information is available at the event’s website.
