Before the Straw Hat Pirates set sail for another adventure-filled season of One Piece, casting announcements for Season 3 are already making headlines.
After Cole Escola joined the third season as assassin Bon Clay, Xolo Maridueña, DC’s superhero Blue Beetle, has jumped ships to join Netflix’s burgeoning pirate family.
Maridueña is set to essay the role of Portgas D. Ace, aka “Fire Fist” Ace, in the series. For non-versed One Piece manga and anime fans: Born as Gol D. Ace, Portgas is the biological son of the late Pirate King Gol D. Roger and Portgas D. Rouge. After Pirate King’s death, Portgas was put in the care of Monkey D. Garp and Curly Dadan, making him the sworn brother of Monkey D. Luffy and Sabo. Prior to assuming the commanding position in Whitebeard Pirates, Fire Fist captained the Spade Pirates.

Speaking of Maridueña’s acting portfolio, Xolo began his acting journey as a child artist playing Victor Graham in the NBC drama Parenthood (2012–2015). The 24-year-old actor quickly rose the ladder of popularity, now also best known for his role of Miguel Diaz in six seasons of Cobra Kai (2018-2025). He’ll be next seen lending his skills alongside Leah Lewis in an indie romance written and directed by Mary Bronaugh.
The show is set to go back into production later this year in Cape Town, South Africa, ahead of the second season, One Piece: Into the Grand Line, premiere on Netflix on March 10, 2026.
