Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, was released in two parts, with the first instalment arriving in December last year and the sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, releasing in March 2026. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film follows the story of an Indian intelligence operative sent deep into Pakistan’s Lyari region to infiltrate a powerful Baloch gang. Ranveer Singh plays the undercover spy Hamza Ali Mazari, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who operates in highly dangerous and volatile circumstances.
The antagonist of the story is played by Akshaye Khanna, who portrays Rehman Dakait, the feared leader of the gang. The narrative revolves around espionage, betrayal, and high-stakes undercover missions, forming a gritty spy thriller backdrop across both parts of the film.
What did Delhi HC Say About Dhurandhar 2
As per a PTI report, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Centre and the Central Board of Film Certification to treat a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) as a formal representation concerning concerns raised over Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh.
The petition, filed by an SSB personnel, alleged that the film could potentially expose sensitive tactical details related to India’s intelligence and defence operations. A bench comprising Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia observed that while films are created for entertainment, their wider impact on public perception cannot be ignored.
The court further noted that the concerns raised were not entirely without substance and emphasised the need for appropriate guidelines. It stated that the censor board should carefully evaluate such issues before certification, adding, “The Censor Board should have some guidelines. We want you to consider this representation and take an informed decision.”
Concluding the matter, the court directed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the CBFC to examine the petition in detail and take an appropriate decision on the issues raised, effectively disposing of the case with directions for review.
Objections were also raised regarding the film’s depiction of what the petitioner described as ‘classified protocols’ and ‘deep cover identities.’ According to the PIL, such portrayals could compromise the safety of undercover personnel working in the field. The petition even alleged that the film’s content had contributed to authorities in Karachi becoming more alert toward possible espionage activities.
Based on these concerns, the petitioner sought the formulation of a dedicated ‘spy movies protocol’ aimed at regulating how intelligence operations and undercover methods are depicted in cinema. The plea additionally demanded the revocation of the certification granted to the film by the Central Board of Film Certification and requested an immediate stay on its screening across theatres and OTT platforms.
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is set to make its streaming debut in India on May 22, 2026, via JioHotstar. The Indian OTT release will reportedly feature a special Raw & Undekha edition, described as an uncut and extended version of the film with additional scenes and enhanced violence sequences.
Dhurandhar’s first instalment is also scheduled to begin streaming internationally on Netflix from May 22 with its extended footage, further expanding its reach following its successful theatrical run.
