Dennis Quaid is still in awe of his Parent Trap co-star Lindsay Lohan.
Even more than 20 years after filming the 1998 cult-classic film with, Quaid commended Lohan in a new interview, praising the former child star as one of the most talented young actors he’s worked with in his career.
While making an appearance on the March 10 episode of the Out of Order podcast, Quaid, 71, declared, “She is the most-gifted child actor I think I’ve ever worked with.”
He went on to talk specifically about Lohan’s work on The Parent Trap, which she filmed when she was 11 years old. Lohan, now 39, famously played the two roles of twin sisters Annie and Hallie, who were raised separately by their mom, Elizabeth (Natasha Richardson), and dad, Nick (Quaid), respectively.
“I mean, I thought there was two people myself,” Quaid said during the new interview, expressing his amazement at Lohan’s ability to flip-flop back and forth between her two characters, who not only had entirely different personalities, but one also spoke with an English accent.
“She just went right into this English accent,” Quaid said. “I thought it was two girls, even though I knew [it wasn’t].”
“She was amazing,” he added of Lohan.
During the same interview, Quaid also spoke highly of his experience working with Richardson, calling her the late actress an “incredible person” and an “amazing actor.”
Richardson died unexpectedly at the age of 45 in March 2009 after sustaining a head injury in a skiing accident. All these years later, Quaid said his heart still “breaks every time” he watches Richardson’s scenes from The Parent Trap.
“If there’s anybody I’d ever want to work with again, it’d be her,” Quaid stated.
