EXCLUSIVE: Endgame Entertainment has boarded Digital Dunkirk, a documentary chronicling an extraordinary, unsanctioned collective effort to evacuate thousands of stranded personnel from Kabul during the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021.
Alongside the documentary, Endgame is developing a narrative feature based on these events and will produce both films.
Both projects will focus on the real-life coalition of U.S. veterans, federal agents, aid workers, and private citizens who mobilized independently as Kabul fell — ultimately coordinating what became the largest unofficial non-combatant evacuation in U.S. history. What began as scattered conversations among concerned individuals quickly evolved into a sprawling, improvised network of digital command centers operating across continents, time zones, and encrypted apps.
“Digital Dunkirk” became the name associated with these ad-hoc civilian-led efforts — a volunteer-driven initiative that formed in the vacuum left by overwhelmed institutions. Operating without official authorization — and often in a legal and ethical gray zone — these groups stepped in to fill critical gaps during a life-or-death humanitarian crisis.
The films will explore the moral gray zone of modern warfare and the human stories behind the headlines — how a loose alliance of ordinary citizens, veterans, and intelligence officers mobilized to save lives when institutions failed.
Award-winning filmmaker David Check (Leavenworth, 30 for 30) is directing the Digital Dunkirk doc, with his company Check Point Productions partnering with Endgame to produce and E.C. Browne (Bosch) attached to executive produce. The scripted feature is being written by Browne — himself a veteran of Task Force Argo, one of the volunteer networks involved in the real-world operation — and Katharine Werner (Cede, The Adjustment Bureau).
Endgame Entertainment has produced more than 50 films, numerous TV series, over 20 Broadway shows, and various other entertainment properties. Currently, they’re in post on Cowboy, a film from Cameron Duddy that stars Ben Foster, Gabe Basso, and Rudy Pankow. They’re also producing a musical adaptation of the hit film Silver Linings Playbook for Broadway. Other recent credits include Netflix’s Murder Mystery films, the Emmy-winning Netflix Series Last Chance U, and its multi-Emmy nominated spinoff series LCU: Basketball.
Check is repped by WME; Browne by WME and Anonymous Content; and Werner by CAA and Anonymous Content.
