STEVENS POINT — Downtown Stevens Point will once again be filled with shoppers, live music and family activities when Discover Downtown returns Saturday, July 18.
The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., giving residents and visitors a chance to explore local businesses, browse sidewalk sales, enjoy live entertainment and visit the Farmers Market while spending the day in the city’s historic downtown.
Families will find activities throughout the event, including a Kidz Zone near Strongs Avenue featuring chalk art, games and other hands-on activities for children.
One of the day’s biggest attractions returns at noon with the annual Ping Pong Drop. Hundreds of prize-filled ping pong balls will be dropped from the roof of Graffiti’s Sports Pub, giving attendees the chance to collect discounts, prizes and special offers from participating downtown businesses.
“Discover Downtown is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the businesses, people and energy that make downtown Stevens Point such a special place,” event coordinator Kris Carne said. “We invite the community to come downtown, shop local, enjoy the entertainment, and spend the day with family and friends.”
Several downtown streets will close to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. to make room for the event. Main Street will be closed between Church Street and the Square, along with portions of Strongs Avenue and Third Street. Access to the Square, the library, Mid-State Technical College and the Cobblestone parking lots will remain available from Third Street.
Organizers say Discover Downtown offers something for everyone, whether it’s shopping at locally owned stores, dining downtown, listening to live music or simply spending a summer day exploring the city’s business district.
