Dolly Parton is setting the record straight — she’s not ready to hang up her rhinestones just yet!
On October 8, the beloved country queen, 79, took to Instagram to reassure worried fans that she’s “not ready to die yet” following weeks of speculation about her health.
“Today’s October the 8th and obviously I’m here,” a dressed-up Parton began, cheerfully, while seated on-set of a Grand Ole Opry commercial shoot. “I wanted to say I know lately everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here!”
The “Jolene” hitmaker confided that her health woes stemmed from the emotional toll of losing her husband, Carl Dean, earlier this year.
“Back when my husband Carl was very sick, that was for a long time,” she shared. “And then when he passed I didn’t take care of myself, so I let a lot of things go. The doctor said, ‘We need to take care of this, we need to take care of that.’ Nothing major, but I did have to cancel some things so I could be closer to home, closer to Vanderbilt where I’m kind of having some treatments here and there.”
The singer could be referring to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in her home state in Tennessee. It is regarded as one of the top hospitals in the South.
As Star has reported, in recent weeks, Parton sparked fears for her health after she cancelled a September appearance at a new Dollywood ride due to a kidney stone. A few days later she announced that she would postpone her highly anticipated six-show Las Vegas residency due to unspecified health issues.
On October 7, the singer’s younger sister, Freida, further worried fans when she asked them for prayers.
