Dolly Parton is celebrating her birthday with a special gift for fans. And it includes four other powerhouse women and one uplifting message of hope and healing.
Parton turns 80 years old on Jan. 19, and will mark the occasion with a new rendition of her 1977 hit “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” The new version features singers Miley Cyrus, Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah and Reba McEntire. The Christ Church Choir is on backing vocals and renowned producer and musician David Foster is on piano.
The single will be available everywhere on Jan. 16. Proceeds will benefit pediatric cancer research at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee.
What is ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning’?
Parton originally wrote and produced “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” for her “New Harvest…First Gathering” album, released in 1977.
According to Rolling Stone, Parton referred to the track as “my song of deliverance” after parting ways with longtime musical and business partner Porter Wagoner. The song peaked at No. 11 on Billboard’s U.S. Hot Country songs chart.
On a 2023 list ranking Parton’s top 50 songs, Rolling Stone magazine ranked “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” at No. 4, coming in between “Here You Come Again” (No. 5) and “I Will Always Love You” (No. 3).
