Dolly Parton has a clear message for America. “I ain’t dead yet.”
Following rumors regarding the current status of her health, Parton took to social media on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to reassure fans that “she’s OK” and has “nothing major” wrong.
“Well, today’s Oct. 8 and obviously I’m here doing some commercials for the Grand Ol’ Opry, which is kind of why I’m dressed like an old country and western girl,” Parton said in a video while wearing black pants and a red top with black fringe.
“But before I got started, I wanted to say, I know lately everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am,” she continued before asking, “Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here!”
“Anyway, I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease, those of you that seem to be real concerned, which I appreciate and I appreciate your prayers,” she went on.
“But I want you to know that I’m OK,” Parton said, noting that she did “have some problems,” as a result of not taking care of herself at the end of her husband Carl Dean’s life and afterwards. Dean died in March at the age of 82.
“I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of,” she explained.
Parton said there was “nothing major” wrong with her health but that she needed to cancel upcoming performances to be closer to her Nashville home and to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she is receiving “a few treatments here and there.”
“But I wanted you to know that I’m not dying,” said Parton.
The singer noted that there were a lot of rumors circulating about her and she had seen an AI-generated image of Reba McIntire at her death bed where Parton noted that “we both looked like we need to be buried.”
“But I figured if you heard it from me, you’d know that I was OK,” she said. “I’m not ready to die yet and I don’t think God is through with me and I ain’t done working. So I love you for caring and keep praying for me,” Parton said as she ended her video.
Concerns about Patron’s health went into overdrive on Tuesday after Parton’s younger sister, Fredia, asked fans to pray for the “9 to 5″ singer who “hasn’t been feeling her best lately.”
After Freida shared that message, she followed up with fans hours later, claiming that she wasn’t trying to worry her sister’s fanbase. “I want to clear something up. I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly,” she wrote, clarifying that the country star “has been a little under the weather.”
This all comes after Parton announced on Sept. 28 that she was postponing her Las Vegas residency scheduled for December due to “health challenges.”
