Dolly Parton has shared some advice to Kelly Clarkson following the death of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
Brandon, who was married to Kelly from 2013 until 2022, sadly died on August 7 at the age of 48. He had been diagnosed with melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer, three years before his death.
As Kelly mourns her ex-husband, her close friend Dolly has spoken out, encouraging Kelly to “try to remember the very best” of Brandon.
“I think you just have to be grateful for the years that you’ve had with someone,” Dolly told E! News. “And you just try to remember the very best of all that.”
Dolly, who’s husband Carl Thomas Dean recently passed away, encouraged Kelly to “take that energy that they had given you then and kind of just recycle that and let that become a part of you.”
She added, “Just honor their memory and just know they’re in a better place than we are these days.”
Dolly was also asked if she had reached out to Kelly yet following Brandon’s death. “No, I have not,” the singer admitted, revealing she has been extremely busy promoting her new memoir Star Of The Show: My Life On Stage.
However, Dolly insisted, “But I will, I’ll catch up with her.”
Dolly’s comments come after Brandon’s stepmom Reba McEntire spoke out for the first time since his death. Reba responded to a tribute posted by her son, Shelby Blackstock, on Instagram, writing, “Very well said Shelby. Yes we will miss him so much.”

In his post, Shelby expressed, “Words cannot begin to capture the tremendous loss our family has endured. Yesterday, we lost a brother, a father, a grandfather, and a son.
“Brandon Blackstock was an irreplaceable part of our family—funny, bright, and full of life—and he will be deeply missed.”
Shelby said Brandon “taught me so much,” adding he has “countless cherished memories that I will hold onto forever. For every treasured moment we shared, there are so many more we’ll never get to make together, but I know you’ll still be there. Every hunt, every flight, and in the everyday moments of life, I’ll feel your presence.”
The tribute continued, “Although it may annoy you, you’ll have to watch me do it all just a little better, a little smoother, and —let’s be honest— looking far more handsome than you ever could in the process.
“We will always miss you, Brandon, and we will never stop loving, remembering and celebrating you.”
