Two weeks following its Aug. 31 close, Music City’s Belmont University has offered facts and reflections regarding the six-week-long world premiere run of “Dolly: A True Original Musical.”
Overall, the 49-performance run drew more than 77,900 attendees to the university’s 1,727-seat capacity Fisher Center in downtown Nashville.
Next year, the show will open on Broadway in New York City.
“As we continue to workshop our musical for Broadway, I am excited to know that the Belmont University Dolly U partnership will continue, with students playing a part in the next step of our journey, just as they did for our Nashville premiere,” Dolly Parton said.

Nine Belmont students selected to participate in the inaugural “Dolly U” Fellowship Program were employed full-time in production-related roles during the musical’s run. Other students supported front-of-house operations and contributed to backstage responsibilities, including constructing the set over a five-week build inside the Fisher Center.
In January, when Parton announced her musical’s premiere, she also announced “Dolly U” as an “immersive educational experience that will begin with a focus on creating the musical’s world premiere,” presented by Parton, “Dolly: An Original Musical,” CTK Enterprises and Belmont University.
