Donald Trump previously made a very bold claim about the late Queen Elizabeth II. The US President has often spoken of his respect for the British royals – in particular the late Queen, the now-King Charles and Prince William.
He is set to host the King and Queen in the US later this month. Writing in his memoir of the late Queen, royal author Robert Hardman said that President Trump spoke fondly of the late monarch – even recalling his first meeting with her.
In an extract released by The Daily Mail, he, quoting Trump, wrote: “The first time I met her, we were only supposed to have 15 minutes, and it just went on because she liked me and I liked her.”
Speaking of the late Queen, Trump, according to the book, said: “So I realised: that’s why she lasted 70 years without a complaint – because she was so good at it.
“The rest of us would have said, “Oh, I liked so-and-so”. But she was so clever.”
Trump then made a bold statement, with the book stating: “And I know she liked me because we talked a lot.”
During one of their meetings, Trump reportedly tried to ask the late monarch about her views on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a new book has claimed.
The Queen and Her Presidents: The Hidden Hand That Shaped History has been written by US political journalist Susan Page and includes several stories about the late monarch’s relationships with various US presidents.
In one excerpt from the book released by US Today, it recalled their meeting in 2019 – just months before Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals.
The excerpt read: “I asked her about it constantly, I’d say, ‘Come on, tell me (what you really think).'”
