Drake has teased the upcoming release of his long-awaited ninth studio album giving fans the opportunity to head to Toronto and find out first when it will drop
Drake has put his fans into a frenzy as he teased the release date for his new album with a frosty stunt.
The rapper posted on Instagram on Monday, April 20, to show fans he had placed a stack of huge ice blocks on the street in Toronto with the date for the upcoming release concealed inside them. Providing the location to fans on the social media app Drake, 39, teased the highly anticipated Iceman writing, “Release Date Inside. 81 BOND STREET DOWNTOWN TORONTO.”
The album — his ninth studio release — is the follow-up to his 2023 offering, For All the Dogs. Many are expecting there to be at least some reference to rival Kendrick Lamar contained in the tracks after he very publicly attacked Drake lyrically on several songs, including his hit single, Not Like Us, in 2024.

Drake appeared delighted with his big reveal concept as he posed alongside it wearing a green and yellow Green Bay Packers varsity jacket, baggy jeans, and tan Timberland boots. Fans took to the comments section to share their opinion on both the stunt and the upcoming album.
One wrote, “Taking a bet with my friends that he takes a small sublime shot at Kendrick.” A second said, “What a waste of money and precious resources. There are people dying in wars and genocide, starving but sure.”
A third posted, “People actually like this dumb ass shit?” A fourth quipped, “This is so wasteful to those in countries who could use this water.”
A fifth social media user added, “All that good water we coulda used to cool down AI data centers.” Drake first hinted at his new album last year with several livestreams and the release of his single, What Did I Miss?
The promotion has ramped up in recent weeks, with a recent report from Billboard confirming that residents in Toronto had been left alarmed when they overheard explosions in the Downsview Park area. The explosions took place as part of a planned film shoot which is now believed to have been connected to Drake.
Residents in the surrounding area were issued notices alerting them that there would be a “pyrotechnic event” as part of the shoot. However, many residents in the area complained that there was a lack of notice regarding the shoot and the noise involved.
The Downsview Park management team subsequently issued an apology to neighbors. The statement, shared by the management team on Instagram, read, “We understand that the unexpected sounds were alarming and unsettling for many and we are sorry for the disruption this may have caused.”
It continued, “While there was never any risk to public safety—and Toronto Police Service and Toronto Fire Services were involved —we recognize that this does not lessen the impact the experience had on those affected.”
