Luke Macfarlane and Seth Rogen did what they had to do.

In this season of Platonic, airing new episodes Wednesdays on Apple TV+, Macfarlane’s character Charlie has a mental breakdown after bombing his dream opportunity to compete on Jeopardy!. This eventually led to Charlie, who was accompanied by Rogen’s Will at the time, breaking into the game show’s producer’s home to convince them not to air the episode.

Unfortunately, Charlie left the scene with an injury amid his risky escape from the lavish property.

Macfarlane opens up to PEOPLE exclusively about shooting that hilarious season 2 moment alongside Rogen.

“You know what was funny about filming that? I think that was the last day of filming of the entire [season],” says Macfarlane, 45.

“It was about three o’clock in the morning, so it was me and Seth filming somewhere in Los Angeles at three o’clock in the morning, feeling a little bit punchy,” he recalls. “Everyone’s kind of sad slash excited to be leaving, but that’s movie making. So it was fun.”

Macfarlane recalls there “being a really interesting kind of hyper energy on set that day” as well.

“You’re exhausted and you’re drinking coffee to try to stay awake, but you’re also sad to say goodbye to everybody,” he shares. “It was a crazy house in real life, too. I remember thinking this house looks like a BMW dealership. Very high ceilings, my goodness.”

Platonic returned for its second season on Aug. 6. The series follows two adult best friends who reconnected several years later, and now navigate the many ups and downs of life together. Rose Byrne and Carla Gallo also star on the series.

Mafarlane opened up about specifically working alongside Rogen and Byrne, who plays his TV wife Sylvia.

“There is a lot of improv on the show, and there’s always comedy and unexpected places,” the Bros actor shares.

“They’re also so different as people and as comedians. I think that’s part of the success of the show,” he explains. “I think they both really tickle each other because what they do is so different. Seth is really verbal and can always say a funny line, and Rose can make you laugh with just the tiniest of eye movements. She’s very physical in her comedy.”

He adds, “I think there’s a lot of improv on set, and that’s also what our directors really enjoy kind of bringing out, is the comedy that just is there on the day.”

Season 2 arrived two years after its predecessor debuted on the streamer in 2023.

As for whether fans will have to wait as long for a potential season 3, Macfarlane says: “I do not know anything yet.”

“The way the world works now, we wait and see and we enjoy the opportunity to get together with everybody,” he continues of the show possibly being renewed for season 3. “That is the nice thing about the show, too, is we can get back together.”

The Hallmark actor also notes that part of the decision to keep going will be up to Rogen, 43, and Byrne, 46, since “they’re both movie stars and they’re in demand, so as long as they keep wanting to make the show, I will always want to make the show with them, for sure.”

“I mean, who doesn’t need to laugh right now?” he adds.
