Unfortunately, ducklings are not in my future right now, but I’m happy to play this video on repeat instead. In it, four of the fuzziest and sweetest ducklings bravely plop themselves one by one into an inviting kitchen sink. They paddle around so happily that the family doodle pops into frame, curious about the fun his housemates are having. He puts his paws up on the counter and peers into the sink, adding the cherry on top to this wholesome and delightful scene.
Fans flood the comments with their desire for the same idyllic scenario, taking the video as a “sign to get ducks” ASAP. A couple of others liken it to “a Dawn dish soap commercial,” which is so true.

Most Compatible Dog Breeds for Ducklings
If you’re like me and are now wondering whether your dog can safely coexist with ducklings, the big distinction is this: you want a livestock guardian, not a dog with a chase instinct.
Breeds like Great Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepherds, Kangals, Akbash Dogs, and even Komondors are bred specifically to protect—not hunt. These are large, working dogs whose sole job is to detect threats and keep predators away, often just by their presence. Incidentally, most predators won’t even attempt an approach if a guardian dog is on duty.
What makes them especially interesting is how they interact with animals in their care. When raised properly, they bond with livestock (yes, even small, fragile ones) and treat them as something to protect, not something to chase. They tend to be calm, watchful, and surprisingly gentle within their “flock,” even if they’re intimidating to anything outside of it.
The Great Pyrenees is probably the most widely used and one of the more people-friendly options, while breeds like the Akbash or Kangal are more intense and better suited for situations with serious predator pressure. Across the board, though, these dogs are independent thinkers—not typical “family pets”—and can be aloof or even unfriendly with strangers.
The biggest takeaway: success depends on early exposure. These dogs need to be raised alongside the animals they’re meant to protect so they imprint correctly. Even then, maturity takes time—many don’t fully settle into their role for a year or more.
The main thing to understand is that if ducklings are part of the picture, you’re looking for calm, protective, low-prey-drive breeds with the right upbringing—not just a “nice” dog with good intentions.
