In the ever-changing world of music and entertainment, few stories capture the magic of serendipity quite like that of Alexander Jean.
The husband-and-wife team of Mark Ballas and BC Jean has become synonymous with soulful melodies, raw emotion, and a creative synergy that has carried them through every stage of their careers. Now, as parents navigating the joys of family life, Ballas and BC Jean are back with a new release.
Check out their Instagram video shared on September 24, where they tell fans, “We have a surprise for you.”
How exciting! As @alexanderjeanofficial confirmed, “I Don’t Dance” will be released on Friday, September 26. For Ballas and BC Jean, the single is another chapter in a story they’ve been writing together from the very beginning.
Ballas, the 39-year-old former “Dancing With The Stars” pro known for his choreography and three Mirrorball Trophy wins, first crossed paths with Jean, the 38-year-old singer-songwriter born Brittany Jean Carlson, at a songwriter night hosted by a mutual friend in 2012.

According to People Magazine, numbers were exchanged, and soon the couple had turned that connection into a professional partnership. Together, they became Alexander Jean, a name drawn from their middle names.
BC Jean’s Songwriting Roots
Before forming Alexander Jean, BC Jean had already built a reputation as a songwriter. Raised in a musical family, with grandparents who performed with Perry Como and Fred Waring and a father who played the trumpet, she began writing poems at the age of five and songs by her early teens.
That path led to one of the 2000s’ most recognizable hits: “If I Were a Boy.” Written from personal heartbreak, the track eventually found its way to Beyoncé, becoming a global anthem and propelling Jean into the spotlight. “I never imagined that someone else would ever want to sing about my ex-boyfriend!” she told Songwriting Magazine.
With Ballas, she has gone on to co-write songs that reflect their shared experiences, like “Highs and Lows” and “The Way You Move.”

A Legacy in the Making
The couple’s milestones have only deepened their music. The couple married in November 2016 and welcomed their first child, Banksi Wylde Ballas, in November 2023.
After winning season 31, Ballas retired from “Dancing With The Stars” to focus on family and music, while BC Jean has continued to balance her solo work with their projects as a duo. Fans have been eager for new material, and early buzz suggests “I Don’t Dance” may be the first of several releases building toward a new EP.
From the night they met at a songwriter showcase to the busy, joy-filled days of raising their son, Alexander Jean’s story has always centered on harmony in both life and music.
Now, as parents and creative partners, they continue to craft music that feels true to their journey and their love story.
